History

ECOMS is an established student society which was started in 1949. Originally the ‘Economics Students Club’, it was strictly an education-based society, focusing upon the discussion and study of economic theory in practice.

The ECOMS of today has developed into something that is almost unrecognisable in comparison. The exuberant seventies and eighties provided ECOMS with long traditions of cheap drinks and good times at excellent events.

Constant evolution and change has seen ECOMS broaden it’s events to encompass the broad subject focuses of the business school, and the different interests of combined degree students.

Today, the Economics and Commerce Students’ Society has evolved to provide members with a broad range of services, from the best social events, to educational networking seminars and professional events linking students at UWA with Western Australia’s business community.

Membership

As a faculty society, all members of the UWA Business School are automatically members of the society. However, in order to gain access to everything on ECOMS (discounted prices for events all year for example), you need to pay a small membership fee of $5.

Come an see us in our office in the business school to purchase membership for the year. Alternatively, if you will be a fresher this year, make sure you come down to O-Day and find our stall, you can purchase membership there too.
