This competition is run jointly by ECOMS and the
Mannkal Economic Education Foundation.
The Economic Scholars Essay Competition looks at socially and economically relevant topics and encourages participants to reach for solutions and to research real issues affecting Australians nationwide.
Prize winners will share in up to $20 000, and have their work published in the new ECOMS Mannkal Academic Journal.

This Essay Competition provides students at Australian universities with an excellent opportunity to further their understanding of an important economic issue of relevance to Australia.
The 2009 Topic is:
Many countries around the world are responding to the global financial crisis and the associated economic downturn with stimulatory fiscal and monetary policies. The essay topic for this year is Policy Responses to the Global Financial Crisis. Essays should:
- discuss the appropriateness of these policy responses, and the extent to which the exact nature of these responses might matter; and
- provide an overview of the theoretical arguments and also briefly consider the evidence, including the approaches adopted by different countries in the past.
Winners will be flown to the RBA Awards ceremony and receive:
First Prize: $1500
Second Prize: $750
Best First Year Entry: $500
Entries must not exceed 2000 words and are due in August after the winter break.

The Robin Cosgrove Prize is a written paper competition centering on youth innovation in developing and promoting ethics in the financial sphere.
